Getting started

Four steps:

  • Tap Create and import a document — a PDF, a Word file, a photo of a page, a web link, or text you paste.
  • Choose what you're preparing for: a meeting, a contract, a negotiation, learning, and so on.
  • DoctoPod reads it and builds your briefing.
  • Pick a length and a voice, and press play.

The purpose you choose genuinely changes the result — a contract read for a negotiation prioritises different things than the same contract read for onboarding.

PDF, Word (.docx), plain text and Markdown, photos and scans, web links, and text you paste directly.

Scanned pages and photos are read using on-device text recognition on iOS. On Android this isn't available yet, and the app will tell you so clearly rather than failing silently.

Yes, on Premium — up to six documents in a single briefing. DoctoPod merges them, removes duplication and flags where they contradict each other.

On the free plan each briefing covers one document.

Up to 40 pages per document on the free plan, and up to 300 pages on Premium. The exact limits for your plan are always shown in the app.

Audio & voices

A 5-minute Quick Brief, a 15-minute Meeting Ready briefing, and a 30-minute Deep Dive on Premium. There's also a 30-second briefing for the moment just before you walk into the room.

Lengths are targets, not guarantees — a short document won't be padded out to fill thirty minutes.

The free plan uses voices that run entirely on your phone, plus your device's own built-in voices. Premium adds realistic studio voices generated on our servers.

You can preview every voice before choosing, on any plan — including the Premium ones.

Narration is one voice walking you through the material. Conversation is a host and an expert discussing it, which many people find easier to follow for dense documents.

Both are available on the free plan.

Yes, on Premium — download a briefing and it plays without a connection. Useful for flights and underground commutes.

Playback continues in the background and on your lock screen, with chapters, speed control and a sleep timer.

Accuracy & sources

DoctoPod reads every page in full, but it is an AI system and it can be wrong — it may misread a figure or miss a clause.

That's why every insight carries a source pill. Tap it and you jump straight to the sentence in your document that the claim came from, so you can check anything that matters in a couple of seconds.

Items are also labelled "Source says" when quoting and "DoctoPod's read" when interpreting, so you can see which is which.

Never sign, commit or decide on the strength of a briefing alone. See our Terms.

Yes. Ask DoctoPod anything about the material and it answers from your own pages, with sources. If the document doesn't answer your question, it says so rather than guessing.

You can also long-press any line in a briefing for Explain, Simplify, Give an example, Why does this matter or What should I ask?

Yes. A briefing can be written and spoken in 23 languages: English, Arabic, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian. The language of the briefing is independent of the document's: an English contract can be briefed in Danish or Arabic. Choose it for one briefing on the options screen before it is written, or set a default under Settings, Briefing language. Without a setting, DoctoPod uses the document's own language.

English briefings are included on the free plan. Other languages are a Premium feature, because the free on-device voices speak English only and the realistic voices are needed for everything else. The app's own screens and menus are in English.

Plans & billing

Three briefings a month from up to five documents of up to 40 pages, 5- and 15-minute audio in either narration or conversation, on-device voices, Meeting Prep, and 15 questions a month.

Enough to try it properly on a document that actually matters to you.

  • Realistic studio voices
  • 30-minute Deep Dives and 30-second briefings
  • Up to 300-page documents, and six combined into one briefing
  • Offline downloads
  • Deeper analysis and far higher monthly limits

Premium is available as a weekly, monthly or yearly subscription. The price in your currency is shown in the app before you confirm anything.

Subscriptions are billed by Apple and Google, so they're cancelled there rather than in DoctoPod:

  • iPhone / iPad: Settings → tap your name → Subscriptions → DoctoPod → Cancel Subscription.
  • Android: Play Store → profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → DoctoPod → Cancel.

You keep Premium until the end of the period you've already paid for. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid being charged again.

Refunds are handled by the store that took your payment, not by us — we have no ability to issue one directly.

If something went wrong on our side, tell us anyway — it helps us fix it, and we can support your case with the store.

Try these in order:

  • Check you're signed in to the same account you bought it on.
  • Confirm the store account is the one that made the purchase.
  • Use Restore purchases on the Premium screen.
  • Close the app fully and reopen it — entitlements are re-checked at launch.

If it still doesn’t appear, your store receipt is the record of purchase — keep it to hand when following up with Apple or Google.

Privacy & your data

Some do, some never leave your phone.

  • Read on your device: text files, Markdown, PDFs that already contain text, and photos and scans. The file itself is never uploaded.
  • Uploaded to us: Word (.docx) files, and PDFs with no text layer, because they can't be read on the phone. Web links are fetched by our server.

To produce a briefing, the text is sent to our AI provider for analysis. Uploaded files sit in private per-user storage only your account can read. Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Our servers, database and file storage run in the EU (Google's europe-west1 region in Belgium).

Some processors we rely on — including our AI and premium voice providers — operate from the United States, under Standard Contractual Clauses. The full list is in the Privacy Policy.

In the app: Profile → Delete account. You don't need to email us.

That removes your account, documents, extracted text, uploaded files, briefings, generated audio, meeting prep, saved answers and device records, and clears local data on the phone. It can't be undone.

Deleting the app on its own does not delete your data — and it doesn't cancel a subscription either. Do both separately.

Troubleshooting

Long or complex documents take longer, and audio is generated after the written briefing. If it seems stuck:

  • Check your connection — briefings need one.
  • Close the app fully and reopen it; work in progress resumes.
  • Try again — a failed step retries only what actually failed.
  • If one specific document always fails, try exporting it to PDF and importing that instead.

Text recognition depends on image quality. Shoot straight down in even light, get the whole page in frame, avoid shadows and glare, and keep the page flat.

Handwriting, very small type and low-contrast scans are the usual failure cases. A native PDF will always beat a photo of one.

DoctoPod is built to keep playing in the background and on the lock screen. If it stops, check that battery optimisation or low-power mode isn't suspending the app, and that background app refresh is enabled for DoctoPod in your device settings.

Make sure you're using the same method you originally signed up with — Apple, Google and email create separate accounts even with the same address.

If you signed up with a phone number, note that SMS codes can be delayed by a minute or two. Check your signal and request a new code rather than retrying the old one.

Didn’t find your answer?

Most issues are solved by the steps above. If something still isn’t working, the fastest fix is usually to update to the latest version of the app — problems are often already resolved in a newer build.
